Giving Up the Old for the New!

20 Dec

The crucial element of the vacuum law of prosperity is that I must let go of the old, before I can ever make room for the new. ~From the book Born Rich

I’ve often thought about why it is so difficult for people to change, to turn their life around, even when it’s not going in the direction that they’d like? We all know people like this. It’s one disappointment after another. One catastrophe after another. One failure after another.

Because I am an expert on fear I’m going to submit that it is fear that prevents people from changing. But fear of what? Here’s where it gets a little tricky. Is it fear of failure? But this individual has already failed at things in their life. Is it fear of rejection? I’m sure they’ve already been rejected and not just once. Is it fear of embarrassment and humiliation? Perhaps, but everyone feels embarrassed and even humiliated at times, even those with high self-esteem and self-confidence. No, I’m going to suggest that it’s the fear of the unknown.

We, as modern day human beings, live in comfort zones. They make us feel safe and secure. But, it is our inborn fears that prevent us from venturing outside the limits of these zones. Even when, in our imagination we can clearly see the perfect person we long to be; one who is happy, secure, successful, self-confident and a winner, we are still afraid to take a risk and make changes to our lives.

I can understand why people would choose to live with the same old, same old. It’s known and it’s safe. To us the unknown is a very scary place. We believe in that old axiom, “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” And so we don’t give up the bird in our hand, even though it may be sickly and dying (think of your job or relationship), to risk going after the two plumper birds in the bush.

There is a universal law that says that nature abhors a vacuum. What that means is that as soon as you give up one thing, another comes in to fill the void. And most often the new thing is better than the old thing you gave up.

The above quote is out of the book Born Rich and is a positive affirmation. As long as you hold to the fear that by giving up the old nothing new will come to you, you won’t risk making the changes that will bring you your perfect life. As you take the first steps on your journey the first old thing to give up is this old belief. And you do it by repeating the positive affirmation above. At first, your mind won’t believe it is true. But repeat it over and over to yourself daily and in time it will become the truth. At that point you will now be comfortable enough to give up the old you, for the new you. This new magnificent perfect you.

Michael

I Have Faith

21 Nov

I have faith that whatever must happen for me to achieve my goal, will indeed occur. ~Another Born Rich Affirmation

It is said a watched pot never boils, and there is some truth to that. When watching the pot it seems to take an extraordinarily long time for the water to boil. Much longer than you expected. And so, you become inpatient.

It’s the same thing when you deliberately attempt to manifest into your life whatever it is you want and desire. Using the Law of Attraction you ask for what you want. Then the next day when what you asked for hasn’t arrived you ask for something else. And when that doesn’t manifest you again ask for something else.

To manifest into your life exactly what you want requires patience. If you graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering one day, can you expect to get a contract to build a bridge the very next day? Probably not. You first must go to work for an engineering firm to learn how the process works. As an apprentice you start out designing a small part of a bridge and as you learn and grow in your profession more and greater opportunities present themselves, until one day you are ready to be assigned the task of designing the entire bridge.

The key to deliberate manifestation is to first ask for what you desire in your life. And then each day reinforce your thought by holding strong to your faith that indeed what you asked for will come to you. Along that path there will be some delays and detours. Accept them as part of the process and don’t lose faith.

Remember you deserve to have everything. Have faith and the Universe will give you everything you ask for.

Michael

What Do You Deserve?

8 Nov

“I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.

For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid.”

-Jessie B. Rittenhouse

There is a chapter in my book Overpowering Fear: Defeating the #1 Challenge in Sales and Life entitled, Littleness versus Magnitude: Your Choice. I developed my beliefs about this choice from the book A Course in Miracles. In ACM God says that each of us are given free choice; we can choose a life of Littleness or a life of Magnitude, which I prefer to call Greatness. For most of my life I didn’t believe that I deserved greatness, and so by default, I accepted littleness. Sure, there were moments in time where I did achieve greatness, but to me they were just flukes, nothing to pin the hopes of my future on.

I am happy to say that I don’t believe that anymore.

Like me, too many people have been raised with the conviction that they don’t deserve to have everything that they want. That others are more deserving. That they have to settle for less. Or that life is a zero sum game where if they get everything they want, somewhere, someplace others will have to get less. If you’re one of these people who believe this then you are absolutely wrong. In fact, you deserve to have everything, be everything and do everything that your heart desires. You are a child of God and God denies himself nothing and he did not create you to struggle and have less than you desire.

Let the poem above be your guide. Life will pay you any price you ask if only you believe that you deserve it. I want you to take my word for it, YOU DO DESERVE IT!  Ask God, Spirit or the Universe for what you want, believe that you deserve it, and have faith that it will materialize in your life. And it will.

It is not that you ask God for too much, but that you ask Him for too little! ~ A Course in Miracles

A Power Greater Than You

16 Oct

Early morning every day, I have a conversation with God or the voice for God, the Holy Spirit, as described in A Course in Miracles. Or as I like to address Spirit, Infinite Spirit. The first thing I ask for is a perfect day. And what do I mean by a perfect day? A day where everything comes my way and one where everything goes my way. I am always open to receiving all the wondrous things the Universe holds in store for me.

Another thing I ask for is that I am always in the right place at the right time. Doing and saying the right things at the right time. I have asked for this for as long as I can remember. In my studies of A Course in Miracles I came upon the following quote on what to ask of God:

“Where would You have me go Father?”

“What would You have me do?”

“What would You have me say, and to whom?”

And then just let go.

They say that whatever problem you are facing; just turn it over to God. Let go of it. Let go of the worry. Let go of the outcome. Just let God, Spirit, the Universe do their work. But we don’t always do that and I’ve often wondered why.

I think its fear. We grow up believing we need to be self-reliant. That it is okay to ask God for the big things, but when it comes to our everyday lives and the things that cross our path daily, we should take the initiative and solve our own problems. Some of you may have grown up in homes where you were admonished not to ask God for the little everyday things. She was too busy and you were bothering her. Not so.

A Course in Miracles also says: “It is not that you ask God for too much, but that you ask him for too little.”

Each of you has a power greater than yourself who is ready and willing to bring you all that you ask for. Don’t think of yourself as too tough, too smart or too macho to reach out and develop this most wonderful relationship.

I guarantee you it will change your life.

My love always,

Michael

Desire Without Expectation

21 Aug

Desire without expectation is nothing more than wishful thinking.  The vast majority of people wish positive but expect negative.  (Your Name) expect only positive things to flow to you. ~A Born Rich Affirmation

Please, let me first define what an affirmation is: According to Scott Armstrong of the Boulder Coaching Academy, “Affirmations, really, are simple. They are you being in conscious control of your thoughts. They are short, powerful statements. When you say them or think them or even hear them, they become the thoughts that create your reality. Affirmations, then, are your conscious thoughts.”

Often when I ask the Universe for what I want to manifest in my life I often use the word desire. For example: If I’m asking for a perfect day I’ll say; Infinite Spirit, my desire is for a perfect day today. A day where everything comes my way and where everything goes my way. Or, Infinite Spirit, I desire to write a magnificent blog. One that touches and inspires every person who reads it.

To just desire this perfect day or magnificent blog is wishful thinking. For a desire to become reality requires that it be backed-up by expectation. Meaning, I must have faith that the day I ask for will indeed be the day I receive, or the blog I wrote will inspire the people I wanted it to. Expectation is that faith.

Now here is where most people trip up. They ask their higher power for what they want, but a little voice in the back of their mind whispers to them, “You can ask for it all you want but you probably won’t get it.” And when they don’t receive what they asked for they believe that the Universe has conspired against them. When in reality they really didn’t fully expect it in the first place.

Here is the formula: Ask + Faith + Expectation = Whatever You Desire

Faith vs. Hope

19 Aug

“Hope is wishing…faith is knowing.” Those words come from one of my favorite spiritual authors, U.S. Andersen in his 1954 book, Three Magic Words.

How many times a day does someone say something to you using the word hope? How many times a day do you use the word hope? Like most of us, you probably have no idea since hope is such an innocuous word, almost meaningless. But not quite.

When we use the word hope in our conversations to ourselves, what are we really saying? Take for example; I hope I do well in my presentation to the committee today. I hope I make the team. I hope I pass Thursday’s math final. Or, I hope I close the sale with the Big Time Company.

What you’re really saying is, I don’t think I’ll succeed, but maybe, just maybe the Gods will shine upon me and I’ll do well. Mr. Andersen describes hope this way, “Hope is a pessimist looking at things optimistically.” It sounds good, maybe even temporarily lifts our spirits, but in the end, means bupkis.

The opposite of hope is faith. And faith is a lot harder to believe in. Typically, we as humans have faith in the things we can see, hear, smell, taste and feel. We use the term, I’ll believe it when I see it. But faith is different. Faith requires us to firmly believe in something that’s not yet there. Or, as Dr. Wayne Dyer says, “I’ll see it when I believe it.”

However, we do have quite a bit of faith in the unseen. We have faith that when we throw the switch on the wall unseen electricity will light up our home. We have faith that the microwaves we cannot see will heat up our dinner. We have faith that every day the sun will rise in the east and set in the west. We have faith that the wireless device hanging from our ear will pick-up our voice and transmit it to our phone and that our phone will send an unseen signal half-way around the world. But, where we lack faith is in ourselves, our mind and the power of our thoughts

You see, we are the co-creators of our life. We co-create with our higher power, or as many of us call, the Universe. And to do that we must first plant the seeds of what we desire by firmly asking the Universe for what we want. Then we nurture this seed by never wavering from what we want, with the firm conviction that what we want will indeed manifest into our life. I call this Michael’s Law of Deliberate Manifestation.

And to do this we must develop our faith. Instead of hoping you’ll do well in your presentation, ask the Universe that you make an incredible presentation to the committee. Instead of hoping to make the team, ask the Universe for an unbelievable tryout that thoroughly impresses the coaches. Instead of hoping to pass the math test, thank the Universe for a perfect score. And when it comes to the Big Time order see yourself already celebrating with the order in your hand.

I know it won’t be easy for you. It wasn’t when I first learned this. I had my doubts. Going from a pessimist to an optimist takes time and effort. I went from the glass is half empty to the glass is half full. But the real change happened when I went from the glass is half full to, the glass is half full and when I drink this my glass will once again be filled to the brim.

If You Can’t Find Time to do it Right

14 Aug

My first job out of college was as a junior salesman for the Milton Bradley Company, the oldest board game manufacturer in the United States. I was required to travel three mid-western states calling on Woolworth stores. It was in one of those stores that I first read the above quote, or rather the full quote; If you can’t find time to do it right, how are you going to find time to do it over. I found this quotation so profound that I made it my personal credo and it has served me well over the years.

You would think that anyone who attempts any task, either large or small, would want to do the very best job they were capable of doing. But anyone over five years old knows that this is not always the case. Now why is that?

My belief is that we were never told of our greatness. Nobody ever told us of our divinity. That we were a child of God and we could be, do and have everything that we desired. Nobody convinced us that we were capable of doing great and amazing things. And so we don’t.

Instead, for many of us, we were told just the opposite – that we were in some way flawed. Not quite good enough. Not capable of doing outstanding work. And we accepted this as the truth, and thus settled for an ordinary life. It took me many years to realize that this was wrong. It is not that we can’t find the time to do it right, but that our internal belief system tells us that we are incapable of doing it right. So why even try.

But try we must. Each of us has the innate ability to be one, two or even three times more productive than we are. So the next time you attempt a new assignment or take on a new task, and before you start, ask God, your higher power or the Universe for the ability to do the very best you are capable of. And soon, you’ll be surprised at just how capable you really are.

What Does Fear Sound Like?

5 Jun

You’re probably thinking, “That’s a weird question. How does fear make sounds?” But it does.

Have you ever said, or heard somebody say anything like, “I can’t do that! I wouldn’t know where to begin; I’ve never been good at mechanical things; I wish I could help but I’d probably make a mess of it; Who you really want is my older brother, he’s great at that, but certainly not me; I’m such a klutz; With my luck it will never happen; You’re talking about something way above my pay grade.”

If you have heard or said anything like the above you now know what fear sounds like. Often said with self-deprecating humor by the individual, what you have really heard is a long standing internal belief that they hold about themself. And often it was given to them by someone else when they were too young to argue its validity.

You see, what often happens is others (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, classmates, friends and even teachers) define who we are. And because they’re usually older and we look up to them, we take it as the truth. Their truth about us, becomes our truth about our self. And we forever live with it.

Take for instance the woman who thinks she’s a klutz. Probably when she was a toddler or preschooler she wasn’t very coordinated, constantly bumping into and knocking things over. Not at all unusual for that age. Whenever this happened her parents and other family members probably joked about it. But to the little girl their looks and laughter created a deep seated fear and belief that it was true. And then, even many years later, when faced with a situation requiring poise and balance, she would immediately declare to all that she wasn’t the best choice, because she was such a klutz.

My belief is that we create our life through our thoughts. What we think about and give emotion to manifests in our lives. If the Universe hears you berating yourself by saying you’re not good at something what do you think the Universe gives you in return? Certainly not proficiency. What you actually get is more proof that you’re not good at something. It’s like a self-fulfilling-prophesy that you can’t escape from.

Henry Ford once said, “The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can’t, are both right.” It’s just a matter of which side of the equation you think you’re on.

My Version of the Law of Attraction

8 May

The more you create through using The Law of Attraction, the easier it is to finally live the life of your dreams. ~Michael Luckman in Luckman’s Laws

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last 10 years you probably have heard of the Secret and its message: The Law of Attraction.

But exactly what is this so-called universal law? And how does it work in your life? Simply put, it says that we attract into our lives that which we think about and put emotion to. In other words, your thoughts become the things in your life.

Now you’re probably thinking that sounds pretty good. I’ll just think about $1,000,000 to come to me and poof, there it is. Unfortunately, it’s as simple as that and as complicated as that.

Yes, the law states that our various thoughts all vibrate at a different rate. That those vibrating thoughts go out into the Universe and attract other like thoughts that vibrate at the same frequency. Thus creating all the good that one would want. But it is also a double-edged sword.

The challenge we face is that of the 60,000 thoughts scientists tell us each of us think in a day, 90%, or 54,000, are negative. This means that we have a 9 in 10 chance of creating negative things in our lives, the very things we don’t want, as opposed to the things we do want. That’s why we so often say the law doesn’t work for us. But it does. But only in reverse.

Now the complicated part. We must bar the door to negative thoughts. But considering that our minds generate so many thoughts in a day that it is near impossible. Except for one unique tool. We feel our thoughts. What I mean by this is your thoughts create feelings. Happy creative thoughts generate feelings of joy and happiness. Negative thoughts generate feelings of fear, uncertainty, doubt, worry and sadness. But, by feeling your negative thoughts, you can choose to change these thoughts to positive ones.

To make the Law of Attraction work for you follow this simple plan. 1) Ask the Universe (or your higher power) for what you want (positive thought). 2) Believe that it will indeed manifest in your life (faith). And, 3) Monitor your thoughts through your feelings. Never allowing negative thoughts to negate the positive ones.

It will take some work, but I can assure you that the law does work. And the results are fantastic!

Michael

Michael’s Law of Deliberate Manifestation

15 Apr

Have you ever thought of what your life would be like if you could be, do and have everything that you have ever wanted? Of course you have. These are the things you dream of.

But until you do something to manifest those dreams into reality they remain just wishful thinking.

What prevents most of us from turning these dreams into reality? Typically it is fear. Fear that we may not reach our goals. Fear that we may fail. Fear of the embarrassment that failure brings. Fear that we are asking for too much. Fear that if we did succeed it would complicate our lives. Fear that we would lose the ones we love. And probably the biggest fear of all; that if we did not succeed it would prove what we always believed about our self – that we didn’t deserve to have what we were seeking.

The truth is we were created by our maker to have everything. Yes, EVERYTHING! In the book A Course in Miracles it says, “That it is not that we ask God for too much, but that we ask him for too little.” And so we live lives of littleness, rather than the magnitude that we were created for.

The Law of Deliberate Manifestation goes hand in hand with the Law of Attraction. Both are universal laws that work to create the things in our lives. And to do this, to manifest our dreams, we need to change our thoughts from those of fear and limitation to those of abundance and unlimited possibilities. And here are steps you can master to do just that:

First, decide what you want. The Universe does not recognize size. It will provide you a mansion just as easily as a one room shack down by the railroad tracks. So, dream big.

Second, ask the Universe for exactly what you want. The greater the detail the easier it is to manifest. If it’s a new home you desire begin by seeing the home you want in your mind. If you have a picture of the home of your dreams this becomes even easier. Now create a movie of it in your mind staring you. Walk up to the front door and open it. How are you feeling? Try to get your emotions going. Think of this house in your mind as your house. You own it. Now walk through your house and experience what it feels like to be in each room. Go out to the backyard and see yourself with your family and friends as you BBQ Sunday’s dinner. Experience the joy and pride you’ll feel.

You can do this for whatever you desire; the perfect job, the perfect soul mate, the perfect business.

And third, never waiver from what you want. Hold the picture in your mind and be patient. What you ask for will manifest in your life. It has to. It’s the LAW.

With Love,

Michael
