A Power Greater Than You

16 Oct

Early morning every day, I have a conversation with God or the voice for God, the Holy Spirit, as described in A Course in Miracles. Or as I like to address Spirit, Infinite Spirit. The first thing I ask for is a perfect day. And what do I mean by a perfect day? A day where everything comes my way and one where everything goes my way. I am always open to receiving all the wondrous things the Universe holds in store for me.

Another thing I ask for is that I am always in the right place at the right time. Doing and saying the right things at the right time. I have asked for this for as long as I can remember. In my studies of A Course in Miracles I came upon the following quote on what to ask of God:

“Where would You have me go Father?”

“What would You have me do?”

“What would You have me say, and to whom?”

And then just let go.

They say that whatever problem you are facing; just turn it over to God. Let go of it. Let go of the worry. Let go of the outcome. Just let God, Spirit, the Universe do their work. But we don’t always do that and I’ve often wondered why.

I think its fear. We grow up believing we need to be self-reliant. That it is okay to ask God for the big things, but when it comes to our everyday lives and the things that cross our path daily, we should take the initiative and solve our own problems. Some of you may have grown up in homes where you were admonished not to ask God for the little everyday things. She was too busy and you were bothering her. Not so.

A Course in Miracles also says: “It is not that you ask God for too much, but that you ask him for too little.”

Each of you has a power greater than yourself who is ready and willing to bring you all that you ask for. Don’t think of yourself as too tough, too smart or too macho to reach out and develop this most wonderful relationship.

I guarantee you it will change your life.

My love always,

Michael

Desire Without Expectation

21 Aug

Desire without expectation is nothing more than wishful thinking.  The vast majority of people wish positive but expect negative.  (Your Name) expect only positive things to flow to you. ~A Born Rich Affirmation

Please, let me first define what an affirmation is: According to Scott Armstrong of the Boulder Coaching Academy, “Affirmations, really, are simple. They are you being in conscious control of your thoughts. They are short, powerful statements. When you say them or think them or even hear them, they become the thoughts that create your reality. Affirmations, then, are your conscious thoughts.”

Often when I ask the Universe for what I want to manifest in my life I often use the word desire. For example: If I’m asking for a perfect day I’ll say; Infinite Spirit, my desire is for a perfect day today. A day where everything comes my way and where everything goes my way. Or, Infinite Spirit, I desire to write a magnificent blog. One that touches and inspires every person who reads it.

To just desire this perfect day or magnificent blog is wishful thinking. For a desire to become reality requires that it be backed-up by expectation. Meaning, I must have faith that the day I ask for will indeed be the day I receive, or the blog I wrote will inspire the people I wanted it to. Expectation is that faith.

Now here is where most people trip up. They ask their higher power for what they want, but a little voice in the back of their mind whispers to them, “You can ask for it all you want but you probably won’t get it.” And when they don’t receive what they asked for they believe that the Universe has conspired against them. When in reality they really didn’t fully expect it in the first place.

Here is the formula: Ask + Faith + Expectation = Whatever You Desire

If You Can’t Find Time to do it Right

14 Aug

My first job out of college was as a junior salesman for the Milton Bradley Company, the oldest board game manufacturer in the United States. I was required to travel three mid-western states calling on Woolworth stores. It was in one of those stores that I first read the above quote, or rather the full quote; If you can’t find time to do it right, how are you going to find time to do it over. I found this quotation so profound that I made it my personal credo and it has served me well over the years.

You would think that anyone who attempts any task, either large or small, would want to do the very best job they were capable of doing. But anyone over five years old knows that this is not always the case. Now why is that?

My belief is that we were never told of our greatness. Nobody ever told us of our divinity. That we were a child of God and we could be, do and have everything that we desired. Nobody convinced us that we were capable of doing great and amazing things. And so we don’t.

Instead, for many of us, we were told just the opposite – that we were in some way flawed. Not quite good enough. Not capable of doing outstanding work. And we accepted this as the truth, and thus settled for an ordinary life. It took me many years to realize that this was wrong. It is not that we can’t find the time to do it right, but that our internal belief system tells us that we are incapable of doing it right. So why even try.

But try we must. Each of us has the innate ability to be one, two or even three times more productive than we are. So the next time you attempt a new assignment or take on a new task, and before you start, ask God, your higher power or the Universe for the ability to do the very best you are capable of. And soon, you’ll be surprised at just how capable you really are.

The Incredible Power of Thank You!

12 Aug

Probably one of the first things we learned to say as a toddler, after Mommy and Daddy, was “thank you.” Those two very important words were stressed over and over again. In fact, I can’t think of any other words that got as much training time as thank you, except for maybe “please.”

At first when I failed to say the words thank you I’d get a sharp, “Now what do you say?” along with a certain look from my folks. If I continued to forget to use these “good manners” words I’d hear, “Wait until we get home. You’re going to get a good talking to.” Sometimes this was a precursor to a sharp swat on the bottom, since embarrassing your parents is a hard thing to talk your way out of.

As an adult I know the power of thank you. Not just when I’m responding to someone who has given me something, but when I desire something I want to come into my life.

Let me explain. As you know I am a very spiritual person. I speak to my higher power every day and seek guidance throughout the day. Since life itself is about making choices, and we have the power to create our lives moment-by-moment, I ask my higher power for help in making the best choices. The most perfect decisions for me.

Besides the traditional way of asking for what I want, that we all use, I also like to use thank you. In sales we would call this the presumptive close, where we presume we are already in possession of what we are asking for. As an example, when I sit down at my computer and I’m ready to write a blog or an article, I traditionally will ask God, Spirit, the Universe for help in my writing. I ask that the topics I want to write about and the words I do write, flow effortlessly to me. And it usually works. My writing does get easier and better.

But sometimes when I’m sitting down in front of my computer I feel my heart fill with gratitude. I am so very thankful for everything I have: My wife, My children and grandchildren. My mother and siblings. My friends. My home and certainly my country. My good health and the fact that I am doing my perfect work; writing, speaking, training and coaching.

So instead of asking for what I want I’ll just presume that I am already in possession of whatever it is I want. And I’ll say, “Thank you Infinite Spirit for helping me write this blog. Thank you for sharing your words with me. And thank you for guiding each and every one of my thoughts. I am truly blessed.”

A number of people responded to an earlier blog about asking for what you want. They shared with me the fact that they were at a stage where they were still uncomfortable asking their higher power for everything they want, need and desire. If this is you, try asking with a thank you. Not only does it work but a simple thank you can make you a more loving and happier person.

3 Ways to Change a Negative Thought!

22 Jul

Probably the number one question I am asked is, “What is the best way to change a negative thought into a positive thought?”

By asking this question, it is obvious that the person asking knows that negative thoughts manifest themselves in fear, and that a fearful thought held in mind expresses itself in those horrible fearful feelings we feel throughout our body.

Here are three methods I use for letting go of a fearful negative thought:

1)    I learned this from Florence Scovel Shinn in her wonderful book, The Game of Life and How to Play it!

“Infinite Spirit, I cast the burden of this (say whatever the thought; fear, anger, etc.) on you, and I go free.” Repeat as many time as necessary until the fear is gone.

2)    This one I created:

“I was lead to believe by others that I (fill in your fear or belief – I’ll use not too smart) was not too smart. That most others were smarter than me. That is an absolute LIE. In fact I am very smart. I have an above average IQ. I learn things quickly and retain most of what I learn. I am very smart.”

In this example I am first verbalizing what I was told (taught) by others. I then declare that this is not true, in fact a lie. I then state to the Universe the exact opposite using the two most powerful words in the Universe, I AM.

Think of this as erasing a recording made years ago and re-recording it with the actual truth.

3)    This comes right out of A Course in Miracles. When thinking a negative thought state the following:

“This thought I do not want. I choose instead (fill in what ever thought you want).”

Try them all and then choose the one you feel most comfortable with. You may address it to whomever you view as your higher power. I will typically say the one I’ve chosen 3-5 times and whenever possible out loud. It’s always best when you hear yourself saying these things.

Creating Your Life – Moment by Moment

12 Jun

If you’ve read some of my previous blogs then you know a little about Michael’s Law of Deliberate Manifestation. In essence what this law is about is the ability to create your life — moment by moment — by asking your higher power (in my case Infinite Spirit) for what you would like to come into your life in the immediate future.

For example: Why fight traffic when you can create the perfect journey? When getting into my car I’ll ask Infinite Spirit for a safe journey, and one where traffic flows effortlessly to my destination. The majority of the time, even in rush hour, my trip will be perfect with me arriving relaxed and on time.

I use this law for business. Whenever I am about to make or receive a phone call I always ask for a perfect call. If the call will entail a lot of variables I ask for a perfect outcome. When I’m walking into a meeting I always ask for a perfect meeting. Always, with the thought in mind of what a perfect outcome or a perfect meeting means to me.

Networking can sometimes be uncomfortable. It means walking into a room full of strangers and then walking up to someone with an outstretched hand and a smile on your face, and then engaging in small talk. This is unnatural and scary. But before I step into the arena I always ask Infinite Spirit for a successful networking event, where I can make new friends who will introduce me to my perfect prospects. I’ll even set a goal with Spirit as to how many new people I want to meet.

We each have been blessed with this internal guide who is there to give us exactly what we want, when we want it. The unfortunate thing is most of us don’t ask for help. I guess we prefer the drama of not knowing what’s coming next – a surprise party or a surprise disaster.

Michael

Courage

3 Jun

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear. – Mark Twain

Wouldn’t it be nice to live a life completely free of fear? Where we could and would try anything new because we would not be constrained by those awful, uncomfortable feelings fear causes us.

Well, it’s not going to happen. Nor would we want it to. Without fear, some of us might decide to do some pretty stupid things in our quest to posthumously receive the Darwin award. So in some instances experiencing fear is a good thing.

But most of the fear we as normal humans experience daily is not real. It is created by the delusional negative thoughts we entertain. Something like 54,000 of the 60,000 thoughts the average person thinks in a day.

So, as Mark Twain said, we are never going to reach a place of total absence of fear. But, we can stop fear from negatively affecting our lives by resisting fear and mastering it. And we do that by changing the fearful thoughts we think to positive ones.

So the first thing we must do is identify a negative thought we are thinking. And here comes the tricky part, because I know you’re going to ask, “Michael, how do I do that?” Actually, it’s not that difficult once you get the hang of it.

How you feel at any given moment is a reflection of what you are thinking. A positive thought generates good feelings. A negative thought bad feelings.

Acknowledge when you’re feeling fearful, afraid, uncertain, or doubtful. Then stop and identify what you were just thinking. It should be easily recognizable as a negative thought. Then let go of that thought and replace it with a positive happy thought. In moments you’ll find yourself feeling better.

There are times when I like to ask my higher power for help in taking the negative thought from me. Typically, when that happens a positive thought will immediately come to fill the vacuum. I usually ask the Holy Spirit the following: Holy Spirit, I cast the burden of this negative fearful thought about ___________ on you, and I go free.” It is best to say this out loud and as many times as it takes to unburden yourself of the thought.

If at first this doesn’t work for you don’t worry, it will. As you make this a habit you’ll find your belief system will change until you reach a point where you ask your higher power to take your negative thought fully expecting it to disappear. And, it does.

Michael
